† ♫ ♫ ♫ Pachelbel's Canon in D major is one of the most recognised and famous classical compositions

(* August 1653 in Nürnberg; † 3. März 1706 ebenda) Johann Pachelbel was the last great composer of the Nuremberg tradition and the last important southern German composer who brought the south German organ tradition to its peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music. Pachelbel's work enjoyed enormous popularity during his lifetime; he had many pupils and his music became a model for the composers of south and central Germany. Today, Pachelbel is best known for the Canon in D major. It was written in or around 1680 and is one of the most famous pieces of sacred music.
