Turmeric is an amazing painkiller & has an anti-inflammatory effect
Unlike the orthodox mainstream medicine: turmeric is - without any bad side effect - the most efficient home remedy for sore throat!
Turmeric is the most powerful antioxidant and natural painkiller on this planet! Around the world, especially in India, TURMERIC or CURCUMIN from turmeric is used in place of NSAIDs without any nasty side effects to the stomach, heart, liver and kidneys. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are usually abbreviated to NSAIDs. The most prominent members of this group of drugs are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.
Turmeric used for thousands of years in the Indian Materia Medica, holds a high place in alternative medicine as a well-tried "cleanser" (detoxifier) of the body. Curcumin of turmeric is on a margin between ancient food customs and cutting-edge medicine. Curcumin is an immunsystem stimulator that can modulate the activation of T cells, B cells, macrophages, neutrophils & natural killer cells; downregulate various proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and enhance antibody responses. Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties of turmeric extract are much more potent than garlic, devil's claw, and salmon oil.
Immune boosting turmeric powder contains 3% to 5% curcumin - a polyphenol.
Curcumin was first isolated from turmeric in 1815, and the structure was delineated in 1910 as diferuloylmethane. Curcumin has an absorption maximum around 420 nm.
Some benefits of curcumin, such as the potential protection from colon cancer, may not require systemic absorption. In 2007, a polymeric nanoparticle encapsulated formulation of curcumin ("nanocurcumin") has been synthesized which has the potential to bypass many of the shortcomings associated with free curcumin, such as poor solubility and poor systemic bioavailability. Nanocurcumin particles have a size of less than 100 nanometers on average, and demonstrate comparable to superior efficacy compared to free curcumin in human cancer cell line models. However, actual in vivo absorption has not been demonstrated with this nanoparticle.
The principal turmeric component curcumin has been shown to be as effective as cortisone and phenylbutazone in decreasing inflammation. It contains pain relievers that stop the neurotransmitter substance P from sending its pain signals to the brain. It also works in several ways to decrease inflammation by reducing prostaglandin activity. Researchers also believe that curcumin increases cortisone's anti-inflammatory action by making the body more sensitive to this hormone. Turmeric is a safe and effective pain killer, so reach for it instead of aspirin or other pain killers (but remember to look for the source of your pain as well)! Curcumin reportedly has a similar action to that of aspirin and aspirin-like anti-inflammatory agents. However, an advantage of curcumin over aspirin is claimed, since curcumin, unlike aspirin, is reported to selectively inhibit synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins but does not affect the synthesis of prostacyclin. Curcumin may be preferable for individuals who are prone to vascular thrombosis and require anti-inflammatory and/or anti-arthritic therapy.
So the next time you sit down to a curry dinner, consider that you are doing far more for your body than simply giving it a flavorful meal. EGCG (green tea) and curcumin (turmeric) inhibit cancer cells. So it makes sense to drink green tea along with a meal spiced with turmeric for double-boosted anti-cancer protective effects.
A dreadful US biopiracy: Since India won a claim against two US scientists who shamelessly patented turmeric in march 1995, the tide of interest may naturally be driven in part by Asian pride in phytomedicinal heritage. The global pharmaceutical corporations were very interested in owning patents for Curcumin and Turmeric because of the much heralded scientific evidence and the long history of its healing properties. ◄ ► http://www.american.edu/ted/turmeric.htm ►►►► Curcumin from turmeric causes a substantial increase in intracellular Glutathione Levels ◄ ► http://molpharm.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/61/3/554

MOST DISEASES ARE CAUSED BY DYSREGULATED INFLAMMATION. THE CURCUMIN OF TURMERIC DOWNREGULATES THE EXPRESSION OF COX-2, AN ENZYME RESPONSIBLE FOR INFLAMMATION AND PAIN.
THE MOST POTENT AND SAFE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND PAINKILLING NATURAL REMEDY IS THE UNPROCESSED TURMERIC POWDER FROM CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCTION: A LEVEL TEASPOON TWICE OR THREE TIMES A DAY OR EVEN MUCH MORE! IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT TURMERIC WORKS BEST WHEN TAKEN A HEAPED TABLESPOON MELTED IN YOUR MOUTH IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF LIQUID FOR SEVERAL MINUTES - ALWAYS IN THE MORNING AND IN THE EVENING ALL THE YEAR ROUND! WHOLE TURMERIC IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN ISOLATED CURCUMIN, ITS MAJOR CONSTITUENT. BE PATIENT: THE FULL BENEFIT TAKES TWO MONTHS TO DEVELOP.
No matter how bad your genetics are: TURMERIC DIETS ALWAYS WORK AND UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES - DAILY CONSISTENT INTAKE OF ORGANIC TURMERIC POWDER PROVIDED! Highly recommended: TURMERIC only from certified organic production only!

Native to India, turmeric is one of nature's most powerful healers. Among others, it is a great natural painkiller and inhibitor of the cox-2 enzyme! Furthermore a sensationally effective antioxidant that might be used to treat skin inflammations. The most of the medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer's disease.
TUMERIC IS ONE OF THE MARVELOUS MEDICINAL SPICES OF THE WORLD. ITS MAIN ACTIVE INGREDIENT IS CURCUMIN WHICH GIVES TURMERIC ITS INTENSE CADMIUM YELLOW COLOR. CURCUMIN, STUDIES SHOW, IS AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AGENT ON A PAR WITH CORTISONE, AND HAS REDUCED INFLAMMATION IN ANIMALS AND SYMPTOMS OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS IN HUMANS. IN OTHER TESTS, IT LOWERED CHOLESTEROL, HINDERED PLATELET AGGREGATION (BLOOD CLOTTING), PROTECTED THE LIVER FROM TOXINS, BOOSTED STOMACH DEFENSES AGAINST ACID, LOWERED BLOOD SUGAR IN DIABETICS, AND WAS A POWERFUL ANTAGONIST OF NUMEROUS CANCER-CAUSING AGENTS. ANTI-CANCER ACTIVITY.

Turmeric is native to Indonesia and southern India, where it has been harvested and utilized as a medicine for more than 6000 years. Nutritional science continues to discover turmeric's anti-tumor, anti- inflammatory, anti-viral, pro-cardio and painkilling effects. In December of 2004 researchers at U.C.L.A. discovered that turmeric was able to break up human Alzheimer's plaques implanted in mice. In a 2005 article published in the Journal of Cancer Research, researchers at M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston Texas discovered that turmeric had the ability to stop the spread of human breast and colon cancer cells. I consider turmeric to be one of the best kept secrets from the world of natural medicine.

Potential of resveratrol in anticancer and anti-inflammatory therapy - Resveratrol is predominantly found in turmeric, red wine grapes, red peanut membrane & bilberries. Resveratrol exhibits several physiological activities including anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro and in experimental animal models, as well as in humans. Anticancer activity of this compound is mainly due to induction of apoptosis via several pathways, as well as alteration of gene expressions, all leading to a decrease in tumor initiation, promotion, and progression. Resveratrol exhibits anti-inflammatory activity through modulation of enzymes and pathways that produce mediators of inflammation and also induction of programmed cell death in activated immune cells. Resveratrol has been shown to produce no adverse effects, even when consumed at high concentrations. Hence, resveratrol possesses good potential to be used as an adjunctive or alternative therapy for cancer and inflammatory diseases.
(!) The creator of this little blog is wildly enamored of turmeric - the best natural NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) throughout the world.

A FIELD IN SUMMER - a picturesque scenery in Germany
Et ceterum censeo: TURMERIC - the spice of life! An ancient remedy enlivens your food as well as your brain and your body! It certainly couldn't hurt to start incorporating more turmeric into your diet.
The only inconvenience found with turmeric is that it may have a mild to moderate cholesterol lowering effect in people. This might be good for most people however it should raise a red flag to those on blood thinners. Just be sure to talk to your doctor first before using turmeric by the spoonful.
TAKING GREAT PAINS TO COPE WITH PAIN It is estimated that 3 out of 4 people will experience chronic pain + inflammation at some point in their life.
A number of natural compounds exhibit potent anti-inflammatory actions without the harmful side effects of their synthetic counterparts, and can be effective adjuncts to pain management. Included in this list is CURCUMIN, an extract found in TURMERIC. Scientific studies have confirmed that CURCUMIN has the widest range of anti-inflammatory activity of any known natural substance, including the inhibition of both Cox-1 and Cox-2 enzymes.
TURMERIC has many active constituents that exhibit inhibitory effects on inflammatory compounds in the body, showing a clinical benefit in the management of many musculoskeletal disorders including arthritis + myalgias (Myalgia means "muscle pain").
In terms of nutritional modifications, increasing dietary intake of beneficial omega-3 essential fatty acids, while decreasing omega-6 fatty acids, appears to have some of the same positive effects as COX suppression. Many double-blind trials involving fish oil with high potency EPA + DHA have shown that omega-3 plays an important role in the modulation of the inflammatory process, and appears to be extremely effective in reducing inflammation in both chronic and acute states.
